Youth Gambling Awareness Program

Youth Gambling Awareness Program

The YMCA offers a presentation geared to youth ages 8 and up, parents and professionals; the presentation is a FREE prevention and education program around the risks associated with gambling and how harm reduction strategies can be used to reduce the potential harm that may be linked with gambling. We offer youth accurate information to make informed choices and walk through a series of harm reduction strategies for them to stay safe.

Working directly with you, your parents, your teachers, your students, or other health professionals, we provide:

  • Prevention and education programs to help reduce the potential harm associated with youth gambling, including curriculum support that fits right into the Ontario Ministry of Educations curriculum from grade 3-12.

  • Community awareness sessions, including presentations to schools and youth organizations

  • Information that will help you weigh the costs and benefits of gambling

  • Decision-making and coping strategies that will help you remain a responsible member of the community.

  • Referral to gambling treatment services

Studies show that gambling patterns often can begin as early as the age of eight. Using a neutral and harm reduction approach, the YMCA aims to provide youth with the skills they need to become happy, healthy, and productive adults.
